1. DINNER DANCE in Devonport October 17
This Saturday, we are having our first ever big social dance event in Devonport.  Come one, come all, from every side of the state.  Let’s dance, dine and socialize!

a. Workshops with Rach and Tony from 5:00-7:15pm
The event will start with workshops from 5:00-7:15pm.
In the first hour we will learn the Group Charleston and Shim sham routines for those who are dying to learn them… and in the second hour or so we will learn some new Solo Jazz routines for those who already know the rest!  The second class will be aimed at the intermediate dancers from Devonport and Launceston but anyone is welcome to do the whole lot (come at 5pm and just stay for the night) You will learn some great moves for busting out on the dance floor that night!

b. Dinner and dancing 7:15pm til we drop
Many of you will do the workshops and then have a seat for dinner by 7:30pm.  Then non-stop dancing from 8:30pm ‘til midnight with hot tunes by DJ Tony!

Cost:    Workshops and social $25
Workshops only $20
Social only $10
*Prices do not include meals which vary between $10-$25
Dress: Something swingy – 1920’s if you like!

Let’s have dinner together and dance the night away.  Great chance for some Launceston dancers to come and meet the Devonport scene, let’s dress up and party!

c. Burnie 10kmfun run the next day
Why not stay in Devonport and join some mad keen dancers who will be attempting to run (or walk) the Burnie 10km on Sunday.  At this stage, the runners include Suren, Hayley and several other mad keen dancers… the walkers include Bev, Rachel, Susan and Tony (kicking and screaming)… come and join us!  You can register beforehand and then need to be there between 9am and 9:30am.

2. No Social Swing in Launceston on Friday November 6
There will be no usual Friday Social Swing in November because the Saloon bar is booked with an engagement party.  All the more reason to come to the Devonport Dinner Dance this weekend… and the Launceston Rave on November 7!  Social swing will return on the first Friday of December.

3. SWING RAVE in Launceston November 7
Set to be the biggest swingiest event left this year! Last year we had our first Swing Rave in Launceston… big venue, strobe lighting, neon wrist bands, hard-core dancing and… 1930’s swing music!  What a great combo for a night of fun!  The date is confirmed for November 7, introductory Swing dance lesson from 6:30-7:30pm in the loft, Dinner at the Saloon Bar from 7:30-9pm, and Swing Rave from 9:30pm ‘til late.  $15 pre-paid or $20 at the door.  Come and dance the night away.

4. Events in Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney
a. Hobart Performance Ball November 21
Details:
When:
Saturday November 21
Where: St James Church Hall, Newtown
Who With: All of you, plus the Hobart City Swing Band will be providing the tunes!
Cost: $25 full price, $23 concession (same as last year)…  We had a group of dancers (16 or more) travel to Hobart for this event last year and we had a superb time!  The Hobart dancers typically perform some great routines… and there is lots of dancing and live music…  a night to remember.

5. Classes this week and next
a. Tuesday in Devonport
This week in Beginners we concluded our super duper 1920’s section with some walks and bust-outs with jumps, as well as they guy’s quick-step into tandem and back.  Very well done every-one!  Next week we will start on 1940’s Charleston… with some new moves for every-one (ideal for those who have done some of the old ones before).  In intermediate this week we started the Shout ‘n Feel it routine.  Heaps of fun… check it out on Youtube… week two coming up next week!  (If you missed the first week don’t worry… we will revise as we go along).

Devonport Class details:
Total beginners lesson at 6:30pm.
Followed by an Intermediate class at 7:30pm,
Then social dancing at 8:30pm.
Cost: $12 for the evening, $5 for social dancing.

b. Wednesday in Launceston
Classes are held at the Saloon Bar
191 Charles Street (upstairs)
Total Beginners lesson at 7:30pm.
Intermediate class beforehand at 6:30pm,
Then social dancing 8:30pm til 10pm.
Cost $12 for the evening or $5 for just social dancing.

In intermediate in Launceston this week and next we will continue with the fast and snazzy new routine, Shout ‘n Feel it.  If you missed last week, don’t worry.  Thanks to Tom for filling in and Tony will be back this week.  In beginners over the next few weeks Graham and Rach will teach 8 beat and Charleston combinations… depends a bit who is there and what people want each week.

6. Demo update
The season for swing dance demonstrations has well and truly begun.  A group of committed dancers performed at the Rock ‘n Rodz cancer fundraiser in Longford two weekends ago, plus there was a spontaneous demo in the quadrant mall the same weekend, and some more demos at the Launceston show last week.  There has been dancing and lessons at the University campus over the last couple of weeks and there will be more dancing coming up at various charity and pre-christmas events (we shall keep you posted).  If you see swing dancers dancing in the streets, don’t be alarmed… smile, clap and join in!
